SF Python was started by Grace Law in November 2008 when 35 devs sat behind the desks of a 30-some-person start-up, ate pizza, and listened to a Python Fundamentals talk by Wesley Chun. Today, with the help of Simeon Franklin and some faithful sponsors, we produce two tech events a month that some members lovingly dubbed “mini PyCon”.

At our Presentation Night on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, 180-250 engineers listen to engaging tech talks from Python Software Foundation members, core developers of open source projects, and local software engineers alike. At our Project Night on the 3rd Wednesday of most months, an average of 120 enthusiastic members hack on projects and share what they know by offering tutorials and mentoring to other devs. Last year, 400 devs attended our Holiday Party--an evening of great talks and a live band.  Visit SF Python Meetup to learn more.

We're excited about how our community has come together over good food, beer, and geeky conversations. We've witnessed many devs grow in their career, from receiving their first internship to landing their first speaking gig at conferences. And we look forward to building a stronger Python community and producing PyBay, the first ever regional Python conference for the SF Bay Area.
